Step 1

We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.

I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.
For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Romans 7:18 NIV

Apply It!

After viewing the lesson 1 video, go to the lesson 1 Apply It! section under “course materials.” Each Apply It! Section of this course will help you to process what was viewed and to actually “do” Step 1 in recovery.

Apply It!

The Apply It! section of each lesson is for you to take what you viewed in each video and Power Point presentation and to work through questions and activities that will empower you to begin and sustain your recovery process.

In each lesson an Apply It! section will be under each Topic. This will help you to put your recovery into action!

Take a notebook and respond to each question in writing to begin your recovery journey.

Below are lesson 1 questions meant to facilitate your first step in recovery. You have taken a bold move to begin your recovery process and with God's leading and help, you will discover freedom and healing.

Let's begin...

Respond to these Step 1 Questions in your recovery journal.

  1. Write down how you are feeling right now as you begin to ADMIT your mess. Why those feelings right now?
  2. When did you hit your wall or your ultimate bottom? If you have not yet, when? Why?
  3. How will you surrender to Jesus all of your addictions and compulsive behaviors?
  4. What may be preventing you from surrendering to Jesus all of your addictions and compulsive behaviors? Why?
  5. What is your perception of life at this moment in admitting your mess?
  6. Going Forward:  As you write your responses in your journal, reflect on how your admitting your hurts, habits, hang ups, grudges and resentments to Jesus can change your life and why. Write down some of these reflections and share them with a trusted friend.
